On a night out with friends a few years ago I was drunk and went up to a policeman and stole his hat as a dare. 2 of them chased me down a dead end alley. I spent the night in a cell.

I've been to jail many times dropping off involuntary residents. Most of the ones I've dropped off either never get out, or spend 50 or so years. Non of them were very nice people.

Me no, but my dad did get nicked once when he was younger on a stag do. No charges were pressed, no names were taken and no one was even cautioned, but he did actually spend the night in jail!
Basically what happened was he and my godfather (whose name is Roger Moore, but not THE Roger Moore) were out with a few guys on a stag night and on the way home decided to strip the groom to be and chuck him out the back of the van and then drive off just fast enough that he couldnt quite catch them.
Needless to say the Police stopped them, and unfortunately the first person they asked for a name was my godfather. "Roger Moore" he replied, and the cop said something like "Yeah, and I'm Shaun Connery" and dragged them all off to the tanty.
Apparently when the Police called my mum she said they could keep him for the night..!
Nelson, that must have been pretty intense to sit in the chair in the gas chamber? I remember seeing the gallows at the old jail in Melbourne, out of use for decades at that point, and it was quite eery! Lord knows what it must have been like to sit in the chamber at the time when it was still in active use..!
I recall reading somewhere that the electric chair in Nebraska has a coffee cup stain on one arm from one of the old guards who used to like to sit in it while he had his lunch...!Last edited by Stubear; 07-19-2010 at 01:17 PM.

By the absolute luck of the young and stupid, no. Many firends doing the same as I did spent considerable time locked up, some spent a good deal of time dead.
When I finally smartened up (took a while) I was so appalled by what I had nearly done to my life that I've been a pretty good boy since.

Nicked -> arrested
Stag do -> stag night / party
Names taken -> the names are on file in the arrest records (or not, as in this case)
Cautioned -> to be given a formal warning. If you ever get arrested again, then having one or more of these can make your case weaker, your punishment more severe, and your treatment worse / less lenient.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Never been in real jail, but i spent one overnight in a military prison about 15 or 16 years ago. I had my weekend off and i returned back to service very drunk. MP's had tried to say something about my condition and somehow it turned into wrestling. I was so ****ed off the next morning when i heard what i had done so ever since i've been a good boy. Luckily the officer on watch that night was from my company so he gave me only warning. No records were made for wrestling. There were witnesses who talked for me and the officer said that if MP's cannot turn no-harm peaceful situation into full riot then something has gone wrong with their education.

Thanked: 0I always thought spending at least a little time in jail was a right of passage.
Been there, done that, a couple of times. I don't think they will allow straight razors though... something about "policy"... you know.
