The 'will do' kind of jobs...
Finally got a job today!
Well, maybe I shouldn't be so exuberant. After closing my business last year due to recession, I went back to school to be a Registered Dental Assistant. I finished up in February and have been looking for a job daily since.
Here's my mental workings on it for your consideration:
Cons:
This place is one of those 'dental factories' where they pay their employees a pittance and work them into the ground. They accept lot's of Dentical patients and most of their pay comes from the state. I've had several doctors tell me to my face that if anybody shows up with experience from this place that they immediately throw the resume into the trash since this place is known for their lax sterilization and infection control. Working at such a place may very well black ball me from working at a private practice at twice the pay for life...
Pros:
Feeding the kids...'nuff said.

Keep sending resumes with no mention of the current employer, I do not like the idea of misleading someone on a resume, but sometimes you have to settle for second best to get along for awhile, keep shopping for something first rate.

You have to feed, house, and clothe your family. Take the job and keep a lookout for something better and never breathe a word again about this place to any future employer.

I agree about taking this job, but depending on how long you work there, you might not be able to avoid mentioning it all together. I was made to understand that American companies really don't like resumes with holes in the employment history. They either think you're hiding something which they would not like, or worse, you might be someone who doesn't think it is wrong to take a year in between jobs to see the world.

red96ta,
I really feel for you, having been through a very similar experience (I was an analytical chemist in those days). After I finished contracting, the only job I could find quickly was with a 'cowboy' outfit, whose reputation in the trade was mud. After I left this place, I drove a van for two years as a courier It was great to leave the 'cowboy' outfit, but the damage had been done
As with all things like this, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and life is good again now; looking back, I am happy that I could look after my family in those dark days.
Best of luck for the future !
Best regards
Russ

All you can do is do what you need to right now, and keep looking for something better in the future.
Dont mention this place in applications if you can; All a CV is designed to do is get you to interview. Once you're there, you can show them that you know what you're doing, that you're knowledgable, and explain the situation as needed.
Heres to hoping you find your dream job very soon..!
Good luck, keep focused on the end goal and all the best to you and your family!

Thanked: 1936If you know how the rest of the potential employers view the place that is paying your bills right now, you might mention in your resume that your views and ideas are "right" in regards to sterilization and so on. I've also learned that "door knocking" does wonders, meaning that even if a place of business isn't looking for someone "right now", they may be thinking about it and they can put a name with a face. Stay persistent and you will persevere...
