    Default Punk rock music festival.

The ninth annual Fest is coming up here in Gainesville, and if you like punk/rock/alt-country then it's definitely worth coming to check out.

The festival lasts three days over Halloween weekend, when a good chunk of our population is visiting Jacksonville for the annual Florida/Georgia game. Thousands of punks come into town and party. About 200(!) different bands play at some 20 various venues around town, all within a nice general walking distance. Music going on just about everywhere.

It's awesome and tons of fun. Grow out a nice beard, come party and listen to some music, and then head home and clean it all up with that massive Sheffield wedge that you have.

Here's the official site, current band lineup is linked, as well as an application if your band is interested in playing:
    Fest 9 : Gainesville Oct 29-31 : Home

And here's a nice HD video about last year's event:

I think that must be a huge festival if there really is even close to 200 bands.

As a teenager punk was the real thing here. At 15 yo i saw the Clash as they played here in Turku 1979. And if i remember the year right, i saw the Damned and Dead Kennedys in 1981. Thinking now i'm not sure if i did understand so much of the music but i was a great way to get close to all those sexy punk girls with their fishnet stockings
Now it feels like thousand years ago

I'm not after punk these days. It has probably become accepted - sort of mainstream or then i've just gotten old (probably so).

Florida will be nice and warm. Great time for a holiday!

Actually it will probably be quite humid, so it might be similar to a Holiday in Cambodia.

I was punk rock skater growing up in Washington DC. Still love going to a show, but miss the bands I grew up on. Wish I had the time and money to come down for this gig... in my BuzzBomb.

On the off chance that someone else might be interested in a great music festival, they just recently announced a general schedule; meaning you can find out what days the bands play, but no time or venues listed yet:
    Fest 9 : Gainesville Oct 29-31 : Schedule

Also a lot more bands confirmed to play since I last posted. Check out the message board for info about pre- and post-Fest shows, travel and lodge, other things to do, etc:

Good times if you like live punk, rock, and/or alt-country!

Thanks for the heads up. That's a pretty solid lineup. If I had the money I'd fly down just to see Planes Mistaken for Stars. I didn't think they were even a band anymore.
