Emotional Attachments to Stuff
I first got this American Bridge structural steel erectors belt when I was an apprentice around 1970. I used this belt and the tools hanging on it to erect structural steel for twenty years. I was disabled for ironwork back around '89 and hung the belt up but I have never been able to give it up. A lot of memories go with it. Some pocket knives, guns and straight razors share the same emotional attachment. We all have loved ones, some are still with us, some are passed away. The attachment remains. Anyone else have 'things' not people, that they are emotionally attached to ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thats a lot of crap to lug around up on those beams!
Sometimes I think I should get rid of the people and keep the "stuff".It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Just weighed it. That is 27 pounds without bolts in the bag. When I was young and used to connect iron I would have two bolt bags loaded up and that 6 pound beater you see there. Climbed many a column with that strapped around me. I basically did get rid of the people and keep the stuff. No regrets..... or at least not many.

I dont have any large items like your toolbelt Jimmy, I just have the odd small thing like an old Ronson lighter my Great-Gran left me. Just little things that I got from people who are important to me.
My nickname, as you all know, is Stubear and my mum got me a little black Beanie Baby bear for a joke once and I've had that in every car I've ever owned.
I think I have one of my Grandpa's pipes somewhere as well..!

The only possessions I can't get rid of aren't objects, but rather the two beautiful ladies who live with me.
Of the objects I have that I won't get rid of:
I have two very rare fly fishing books
The first flyrod I ever built
The first knife I ever built
I have one didjeridoo that I can't find the maker and I just love it.
My grandmothers pocketknife (its all I have of my best friend)
My bottle of cologne by Al
I'm sure I have more as I am a pack rat, but I'm tired.

Thanked: 6Absolutely. It's nice to have those memory joggers around. Especially if you're like me and don't have the greatest memory.

Attachment to things eh?
I'm attached to money. If any of you have any old dirty money you don't need anymore just put it in a box and send it to me.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
