Good question, Jimmy. I have lots of stuff. My family house, my grandfathers chest of tools, some furniture, many books, an instrument or two which I spent most of my teens and twenties playing, some razors, a couple of items of clothing, etc.
When I buy something it has to have two or three conditions: 1, it must help me learn about something; 2, it must be good at what it's supposed to do, and 3, it should last a lifetime.
Most of my family has followed the same rules which is why I have so many things I would like to keep. If someone came offering a pile of money for them or I hit really hard times I'd probably sell them but otherwise I'll do my best to keep them in the family.I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Attachment to things eh?
I'm attached to money. If any of you have any old dirty money you don't need anymore just put it in a box and send it to me.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I would have to say my house. I built much of it when younger. You see your kids grow up in it, holidays.....
When hurricane Andrew threatened south Florida, I remember boarding it up thinking it might get leveled. Then your frame of mind changes because the most important part of your whole life is inside the house..........your family.
Andrew was a whimp by the time it crossed the state, a couple of trees damaged, but the house was undamaged till I took the plywood off and seen all the damage I did to it from the cement nails.

i used to be quite attached to many things.. to the point where i was starting to horde.. eventually i received a letter from a storage unit i didn't even know i had.. turns out i hadnt used the stuff in over 4 years.. so i keep the valuable stuff.. like my collection of blue willow and depression glass.. i threw the rest out..
after that wake up call.. i now find joy in giving stuff away.. i have a huge collection of swatch watches and i really get great pleasure out of giving them away to friends.. i really try to pack light now.. with the exception of some antiques i have in storage.. i can fit all my personal belongings in the back of a pickup truck.
now.. if only i had a pickup.

I have my late fathers Hardys split cane fly fishing rods, his heavy stock saddle, stock whip, muelsing gear, Brno mod 2 .22, my mothers stock saddle, her Brno mod 2 .22, Pat 53 Enfield that came from the sheep station I was born on, a .455 webly revolver that belonged to a close freind of the family, a flintlock Lancaster style long rifle made by a close mate, and the list goes on !! These are all prompts that remind me of people and places and horses I have known.
My girlfriend is rather amused by my apparent attachement to things !!
Cheers allKeep yo hoss well shod an yo powdah dry !

Just my Gibson RB250 Mastertone banjo I bought on credit while in the Army in 1969. And my brother Chris Jones' concert guitar. He was (and still is-has memorial concerts annually held for him) very well known as a folksinger, blues artist, arranger and accompanist in Europe. He passed away in 2005.
