Violin Teaching Via the Internet
This gentlemen, Adam DeGraff, is working with students this year, on the internet, to try and teach this one song. The video shows him working the violin in order to produce the entire band's sounds. It's pretty amazing. I'm not getting anywhere yet, but the idea is interesting. I'm just a beginner myself.
He is taking 8 or so bars at a time and teaching each section, with his opinions included on the style needed.

Other violinists send in videos on Youtube to show their progress. Its a neat idea for straight shaving. Close to what we are doing already.
I appreciate his efforts at trying to teach many people at once. He has well over 1000 internet students and is giving away a violin to the best video entry at year end.

I hope Paul(Richmondesi) get's to see this. For adults wishing to learn the fiddle, vs classical training, I always tell them to figure out what style they want to learn as their first lesson. For example there are several styles that make up what many just lump together as "Celtic" Each one is almost like it's own language.
Then they need to seek out those people and mix in.
Here in the states, you have bluegrass, but within that you have old time, dance music of the North West, Texas Style etc.
Many very good technical players of classical music it is sometimes impossible to make the transition. Almost like tool sharpeners telling razor sharpeners how to sharpen. Many things fiddlers do with the bow are very rythmic and classical players have to learn to let their wrist go and play with their ears not eyes reading music. I can read, but playing it is way different than it looks on paper.
I hope you don't mind the hijack.
Now back to shaving, I hope that post that came up where that new guy was going to visit an old barber at work took my suggestion to video the guy giving a straight. I know there are a few around, but those old guys a scarce.
I find myself watching old movies and get very excited when Edward G Robinson is getting a shave, but wish more of the movie was dedicated to the barber shop scene
