    Default Any pickers out there?

I know we have some musicians around, any pickers out there?
I'm curious what kinds of picks you use, size, shape, thickness, material, etc.
I've started making picks for a friend of mine.

If were talking about guitar picks. I use these Dunlop - Tortex Guitar Picks (12-Pack) - Orange - 418P60_53667 and i love the thickness of it, not to hard and not flimsy, i also always keep them at my studio for other musicians to borrow, considering its in the middle of the spectrum as far as playing

For a second I thought this thread was going to be about nose picking.

However I've made 2 plectrums so far. Both out of Dragonsbreath custom micarta. I had some small pieces left over. They're pretty nice. I'll see if I can find a picture somewhere.

I've been making mine out of tágua. I find the material to be extremely close to tortoise shell. too bad the pieces are too small to make into scales!

Being a bass player, from the start I only used my fingers. I only fall back to a pick when the original player used a pick and I am trying to emulate the sound.

A good example is Wipping Post. Just doesn't sound the same finger picked.

When I do use a pick I use a heavy Fender 346 rounded triangle picks. I get a good grip and because the point is stubby, they stroke smoothly on bass strings.

Love Tagua nut. Wonderfull material. I've been using it for knifemaking. How many picks can you get out of one nut?

I am still looking for the perfect pick.. seems most plastic ones I have slip out of my fingers and I can not get a decent grip so I gave up on them a while back to concentrate on finger picking on my six string.

I buy them by the slice from oneworldprojects.com which is I think a great deal because I don't have the tools to cut the nuts and they are solid slices, no voids.

I've started shaping my picks a bit like surfboards, with gentle curves in just about every direction. This adds a lot of strength but also, regardless of polish, allows the skin to wrap around the pick nearly anyway you grip it.

Being an upright bass player, I completely sympathize with concentrating on using fingers. That's the tone I know and love

I guess I've never been a picker. I'm more of what some may call a bleeder. I made a couple of wood/bamboo picks years ago, but gave them away. I guess it comes from years as a cellist leading to the years on bass then it followed through the horizontally set strings.
Yes there were many gigs that despite my callouses I would play through the skin and have to spend some time cleaning an instrument afterward.
