Soldier's Angels is another well respected support group for the troops and I do believe they have overseas chapters.

I appreciate all the support on this project, and the links to alternative programs as well.
Thank you very much!
Mark.

It would probably require that those who wished to contribute would have to send either monetary donations, or maybe a piece of hardware or sealed packaged commercial soaps, etc.
Maybe we could buy some of Colleen's soaps with the donations and send them to the soldiers.
What do you guys think??

Would these guys be allowed to have things
like shaving soaps/mugs or bowls and brushes?
I've never been in the military and wonder if
such things would violate any regulations.
I know Bill would have a lot of insight on
something like this.

There are no regulations on what shaving equipment, we have to use just that we shave. Straight Razor would be a little hard to transport going in and out of different countries and who happens to be checking bags on any particular day, would hate to loose a nice razor just because some “A” hole wants to make things difficult.

The concern that I have is that when you're deployed in a war-zone, you generally don't have enough time for 15-min shaves, stropping, honing etc etc etc. Only officers may be able to get away with using brushes/soaps. Best case scenario, the poor private can use a creme and a DE.

We might send some ladies soaps, too, as all of the people over there serving aren't men. There are a lot of young women serving in the armed forces, too. I think we should send ladies soaps in accordance to their numbers. Ladies need to shave, too. Just different areas.

There is definately no way we could send a straight.
Not even a DE, it would have to be disposables.
And when it comes right down to it, canned shaving
cream. This is what these guys are used to shaving
with and under the circumstances, they simply
wouldn't have the time or resourses to learn to
shave with a straight or even a DE fro that matter.
I agree with canerunner on sending stuff for ladies
as well and keeping this non-political. A simple
package back home would mean a lot to these
brave men and women. A lot more than the actual
value of the contents that are within.

I was just stressing my point. I really mean no disrespect to the soldiers and I recognize their need for some comforts when they're in highly hostile territory. The reason I expressed my objections to the war itself is to indicate that some people would be willing to help the soldiers even if they do not support the war. If the marketing of this initiative is kept on that note, you can get an additional support base. On that note, I tried to make a couple of constructive suggestions:
1) If we can find cheap but decent DEs and we can send'em with sealed blade packs (make sure that the blades themselves are of good quality)
2) Even though they can't use brushes/soaps, cremes are as easy to use as the stuff that comes out of cans. On that note, Colleen is developing cremes as well as soaps.
3) Aftershaves should also be OK.

Nephew in the Corps
Howdy all,
My 24 year old nephew is in the Marines and doing his second deployment in the Big Sandy.
He carries a Ka-Bar given to him by me. I also gave him a shaving brush (pig bristle) to whisk sand out of his M-16.
He tells me shaving brushes are very popular now for this very purpose.
And yeah, kids like getting mail and surprises.
semper ubi sub ubi,
LG Roy
