I have a friend in the National Guard whose until has been in Mississippi for a couple of months now, gearing up and training for a 1 year deployment to Afghanistan starting early June. He spent time in the Sinai Peninsula a couple of years ago. These guys are really thankful for letters, magazines, comic books, and lots of other stuff. Support really helps these guys out.

Soldier's Angels is another well respected support group for the troops and I do believe they have overseas chapters.

I appreciate all the support on this project, and the links to alternative programs as well.

    Thank you very much!
    Mark.

I was just stressing my point. I really mean no disrespect to the soldiers and I recognize their need for some comforts when they're in highly hostile territory. The reason I expressed my objections to the war itself is to indicate that some people would be willing to help the soldiers even if they do not support the war. If the marketing of this initiative is kept on that note, you can get an additional support base. On that note, I tried to make a couple of constructive suggestions:
    1) If we can find cheap but decent DEs and we can send'em with sealed blade packs (make sure that the blades themselves are of good quality)
    2) Even though they can't use brushes/soaps, cremes are as easy to use as the stuff that comes out of cans. On that note, Colleen is developing cremes as well as soaps.
    3) Aftershaves should also be OK.

    Howdy all,

My 24 year old nephew is in the Marines and doing his second deployment in the Big Sandy.

He carries a Ka-Bar given to him by me. I also gave him a shaving brush (pig bristle) to whisk sand out of his M-16.

He tells me shaving brushes are very popular now for this very purpose.

And yeah, kids like getting mail and surprises.

No offense or disrespect implied, and none taken, friend. I know that when I'm traveling in Europe, I'm amazed at the difference in perspective that is presented in the news there compared to what is in the news here. It's really like we're talking and writing aboutt wo completely different situations.

In this country, regardless of what the news media in Europe would have you believe, we enjoy the freedom to express our opinions freely, and although we may get into heated debates over certain issues, the vast majority of the people will defend to the death your right to disagree with them.

It is my opinion, and I think you and I agree, that the real issue here is to let the young people whose lives are placed in harm's way, know that someone is thinking about them, and that someone cares.

It's not the young that start wars, and it's not the elders who fight them.

    Why is that???

ACTUALLY, it's not so much an age difference as a class difference.
Poor kids fight and die to protect the rich man's capital. Why is THAT!?
