I wear a bow tie on occasion, but often find that unless I have a vest or a sweater vest, I look far too like a waiter...with the vest, it pulls it all together (we don't really wear full suits here at the office, just shirt and tie).

Wow, I haven't thought about bow ties for a long time. I always liked them, especially for dining out since you didn't have to worry about spilling on them. Don't think I've worn one since my 20s or 30s, when they probably made me look like an uptight egghead. Which is fine, because I was an uptight egghead. Since then I've shed my college-boy ways, moved west to where they do that bandana thing (or, if it's a funeral, a string tie and slide), and become a dirty construction worker. Gads, I don't think I even own a blazer any more! But I still have the bow ties. Some day, when I have my master's license and have moved back to a campus town, I'll go to nice restaurants and fancy concerts again, and will resume the bow ties. To my wife's chagrin.
At my first school (K-3), our custodian, Mr. Dickerson, always wore a gray jumpsuit with a black cap and a black bow tie. He was natty as all get-out, even as he bravely pushed his broom through the pink vomit sawdust. We thought he was a god."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

I went searching for this thread today to get some of the links. Myself and a couple guys at work got to talking about bow ties and have decided to give them a try.

I sometimes wear a bow tie usually, it has to be said, with a dinner jacket . However, I read somewhere recently that wearing a bow tie announces to the world that you can no longer have an erection.

Well that is unfortunate because ever since I started wearing them I've been getting more action than I can handle. So technically I can't get an erection because I'm not recovering fast enough.
I got another, the third, guy at work wearing them now.

I have been wearing bowties for the last 6 months, I have been wearing them to church when I teach my sunday school class. I recomend to learn to tie your bowtie and not a clip-on. Learning to tie your own is alot more fun!
