    Default Using the Internet

I find it interesting when I find people using the internet in interesting ways. For someone with a professional background in education I find things like Skype interesting.

So I came across this example, by Eric Whitacre. He sent out instructions to talented vocalists, sinc'd up the videos, and viola. Here you have 185 or so singers in a "choir".

    Simple and impressive.

That is interesting and reminds me of another very creative use for the internet.
A belgian composer named Gottfried Willem Reis has created a foundation to promote new music in Ghent, Belgium. There he puts into play his creative output by designing, building and programming a series of robots that are, in fact, computer controled musical instruments. Any composer can write music for this robot orchestra and the result is quite astonishing and interesting as well.
Recently he invited a series of composers arround the world to give a live performance on his robots. One of the invited composers is a good friend of mine. On this particular performance, the composers were each in their little corners of the world, controling the robosts via internet based applications and comunication between them via skype... and the public could see their chat boxes and see how they were coordinating the efforts live.
That is a very ingenious use of both the internet, computer music techniques and skype.
