In Praise of SRP Members
Gentlemen and Ladies,
My 48 years on this earth have netted me the opportunity to meet many people. Some I would have preferred not to meet, and some who would have preferred not to meet me.
But I have been an SRP member and straight razor shaver for just under a year, and in that time I have met some of the most generous, knowledgeable, kind and nurturing people ever in my life. Who would have thought that shaving (oh I know, it's not really about shaving) could have been the catalyst for so many new and positive relationships and experiences.
I would like to tell you briefly about a member that contacted me and we had 1 meeting together sharing a fantastic evening with a second member.
The gentleman is known as Mattluthier here at SRP - I know him now as a good friend. If anybody was paying attention to e-bay's Filarmonica listings the last couple of days, you know that somebody spilled 11 never used vintage Filarmonica Doble Temple #13's in the listing along with around 6 #14's. I had to work late on Tuesday and would not have been able to conduct final bidding to win one of the 13s, and I refuse to use a bidding program. I contacted Matt and he graciously agreed to monitor and bid in my absence. This was no small task because 10 of them all ended within minutes of each other and I had a set limit to work with. He had to really pay attention to do this. Not only did he win me one, but paid for it himself and was fine with being reimbursed when the razor came in. Of course I did not let that stand - but Matt would have been Ok with it.
My point here is that these are the kind of gentlemen and ladies that have congregated to SRP. I feel privileged and honored to be in their ranks.
They say that a true friend is somebody that you could call at 3:00am, as for $2,000 in cash, a loaded gun and a car with a full tank - no questions asked and they would come through for you. I think bidding on a Fliarmonica Doble Temple #13 for you should be added to the list.
Thank you Matt and Thank you SRP.
David

Thanks for sharing David, and thanks Matt for your generosity! It always amazes me how many truly awesome people we have here..!
I'm obviously going to have to make sure I only deal with straight razor shavers, that way I can be guaranteed of dealing with classy people!

It is true that we have a very good community. We have a large number of contributing members, and a lot of staff working tirelessly as a close knit team.
Btw, GIXEN - Free eBay Auction Sniper can also do what you want: it will snipe ebay auctions, and you can work with groups to insure that you if you win one item, it will not try to buy certain other items. I've used it a couple of times because many auctions end whem I am soundly sleeping.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Great to hear stories like this. I too have met many people over the course of my life. After many years I am still very optimistic about people, which in my line of work is unusual.
Anyway, they say the true test of a friend is when you are sitting in jail a true friend won't bring you bail money, he will be sitting next to you.

I am an on and off visitor to many forums, but this is the one that I always enjoy returning to - I really is a gentlemens hideout.
It is hard on the internet to find places with such a good atmosphere and community.
So far I have not found better.

Thanked: 983I have had several generous experiences from members of his forum in my short time here. As a result, it has led me to trying harder to be a more generous man myself. I am thankful to those that have helped me. By doing so, they have started me off on the road to improving myself.
