    Default Tips from Canucks?

Allright you friendly Canadian type people.

The other day my family (as in my wife and I and my parents/brothers) were discussing leaving our little corner of the world, picking up all our stuff and moving to Canada.

My wife is Dutch, German and Australian nationality, my kids are Dutch/German nationality and I'm Dutch/American nationality.

I'm a software test engineer and have a bachelors degree in Facility Management.

At this moment we haven't decided anything yet we're merely looking at our options.

    Any tips?

well canada is pretty awesome either way so come here instead of cali lol

as for jobs im not too sure....i dont work in that are so i wouldnt know where the demand was highest for it. Your best bet is to do a bit of searching on what areas would be best for your and your wifes work.

other than that there are many good schools all over the place so your kids would be good too.

The weather sucks. Get ready for 9 months of winter, and 3 months of poor ice conditions.
Cost of living is high, too. Even though the dollar is about on par (last I checked,) a lot of goods can regularly be as much as 30% higher.
Health care is cheap, and very, very good.
No one packs guns around, and the crime rate, I believe, is quite a bit lower than it is south of the border.
The people are different. It's been said that Canadians are generally much more laid-back, and reserved, than our southern neighbors. (Maybe because we don't pack guns?)
Our legal system is much more unified than that down south. Province to province, crimes and their punishments vary less (if at all) than from state to state. (Though I have no first hand knowledge of either system)
The school system is pretty good, though it has much the same problems as the American public school system.
    Canada Post sucks.
All the cereal boxes all have French on them. I owe all my bilingual skills to countless mornings spent reading the French side of the box and using the English side as a crib.
Quebec is generally considered much like another, separate country, though a passport isn't needed.
Spelling is different too. Words like colour and honour are usually spelt with a redundant "u". Spell-check finds all of them.

All in all, not a bad place to live.

Edit: It's almost impossible to get good Mexican food up here too, and we have no idea about BBQ-ing. Really... none.

Neat, I am a software test engineer as well.

Yeah, winter sucks and it is long. Although, in the summer we get like 15 - 20 hours of daylight per day.

Default The Netherland Hillbillies: The Ballad of LX Emergency by Mhailey

Come and listen to a story about a man named LX
A poor computer geek, trying to kept his family fed,
Then one day he was sitting round some food,
And up through his mind came a idea for his brood.

Movin that is, packing the wagon, Canada way.

Well the first thing you know ol LX is on the forum,
forumfolk said "LX move away from there"
JMS said "Californy is the place you ought to be"
So he loaded up some tulips and moved to Beverly.

Hills, that is, where you still get Amstel, and Heineken.

Well now its time to say good by to LX and all his kin.
And they would like to thank the forum fer kindly droppin in.
You're all invited back a gain to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of his hospitality

Netherland that is. Clean for a spell, speak three languages.

    Y'all come back now, y'hear?.

Try setting the spell check to a proper dictionary, like Australian English...

Some people have too much time on their hands, but I couldn't stop laughingand even had to sing out loud...
