What's a thread about picture without the first ever picture taken!
The picture was taken in 1826 by Nicéphore Niépce from Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France
Its called "View from the window at Le Gras". It doesnt show much but is definately part of history.

reading your post and the visitation of were your family was from reminds me of a guy i spoke to about 10 years ago ..i was trimming trees for the power company when an older guy came out and started talking with us .. i noticed his German accent and had asked him when he came to the U.S. ?? he said hold on ill be back and came back with a box of metals and military patches .. he fought with Rommel through most of WW2 , he mentioned the one thing that really stuck in his head was while eating they heard a roaring sound in the sky and he said from as far as he could see from left to right were big bombers that unleashed so many bombs it was like nothing he had ever saw before .. i dont remember everything he told me but that stuck with me as i couldnt imagine that being on any side in such a war .. after the bombing he was captured and brought back to the U.S. were they kept him and other Germans in camps and moved them from state to state to pick vegetables and fruits until after the war when they gave him the option to stay .. he stayed and soon brought his wife over and begun there family in the U.S. .. i drove by the house a few years ago and it looked like no one lived there anymore and have often wished i would have went back sooner cause i bet this gentleman could have told me so much and i could have saw so much and i hope his family saved everything instead of tossing it in the trash ...WW2 & the Civil War have always fascinated me and i love to hear bout things from on hand experiences and not from the text books , and as times go by we loose a lot of our past and a lot of people dont care to keep photos or even know about " back then " .. i have really enjoyed this thread and i wish my family had pictures and such saved from the olden days ... lol

o btw ..lol.. i got carried away but i asked him if he ever wanted to go back to where he was from and he said NEVER !! he said after all he saw in Europe and Africa he was happy here ..lol
