Did some scanning again. From my grandparents (my fathers parents) family album.
There's my old man, eh, grandfather in the 1st pic. It must have been taken during the war. The second pic is also from the war. His hand written text behind the pic says: 'after the battle'
This pics have been taken sometimes after the war. The old man worked as a lumberman for some years. The life must have been very different back then.
In the last pic there's my grandparents again. This time with my father (and the rabbit).

Sailor, my grandfather was in that war, Swedish volunteer and then he stayed there, he felt Sweden betrayed Finland, I'm bound to agree on that one...

Foreign volunteers, mostly from Sweden and Estonia were great help. Not to forget about Swedish volunteers in our civil war. And so many people here are still most grateful for all the material aid we we given from Sweden during WW2.
In my home town Turku (Åbo) there's still whole area called Ruotsi (=Sweden). All the houses were donated by Swedish people, to those families who had lost their homes in bombings and evacuation in Karelia.
And not to talk about war children, kriegsbarn. Almost 80 000 little children were sent as a war refugees to Sweden to escape the terror bombings. My mother-in-law was one of them. Because of volunteer good Swedish people, they were taking care of, and later most of them returned.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Inspired by Lemurs comments i decided to scan few pics more. Here's the story:
While we still lived in a city, we lived in an area called Martinmäki (= St.Martins Hill). The house we lived between 1984-1998 was built about 1880. During the war the whole area was bombed and rebuilt.
This is from 1941, my (future) ex home burning:
And that is how the whole area looked the next morning. If the bombers tried to hit the church they surely missed:
And that's how my ex home looks today (sorry, in colours):

this was taken out the back door of my grandmother's house where we lived till i was 12. one of my parents took it. saw a lot of nature out that door. i remember the smell of freshly cut maple when the neighborhood was cleaned up after hurricane diane in the early 50's.

the grandmother and grandfather in question. i never knew him, he died 3 1/2 months after i was born. his grandfather came over from ireland with his wife and 12 or 14 kids, there were 76 grandkids, so at one point i figure there was a lot of family in mass/ct area.
