As said here there are plenty of other great places to live. My adivce was based on just your living situation for the interim. If you do relocate your family the burbs are far safer and enjoyable. I live in the burbs but work in the city with about a thirty minute commute. A neighborhood like mine in Perry Hall / Fallston is quiet, affordable and low crime.
Once you get into town send me a PM or email and I'll show you around.

alot of good advice was given around the john hopkins area isnt the best area but you should be ok going to and from work i would spend the extra money and move to a neighborhood where more white collar types are the good thing about maryland is there are plenty of jobs so your wife should be able to get a job here soon some areas you may consider canton fells point highlandtown they are all close to johns hopkins i am in highlandtown its about a mile 1/2 from johns hopkins and the silver lining in the cloud is that your moving to the richest state in the us so your wage's should go up we havent suffer much since the recession

Well its past November so if your there in B-more I hope things are well.
I used to commute from Silver Spring to the Pumphrey area (south of the city) for Schutzhund training 3 days a week. The traffic is the hardest thing to get used to. If you do get the chance and your looking for a relatively cheap lunch or dinner that will take you mind off most things for a while try Chaps Pit Beef. Its safe and great food. Even though they have been on TV its still a locals joint.Last edited by TeMpTiN; 12-18-2010 at 04:25 PM. Reason: typo
