Actually that improvement is highly dependent on the person's socioeconomic status (especially evident in USA where the disparity is much larger than in europe).
So it'll probably end up working really well for that family; participation in reality shows seems to be an easy way for upward economic mobility for those who can't or don't want to earn it the old fashioned way with real work.
