    Default pocket watches

I was wondering how many people out there collect or use a pocket watch? Kind of getting into all of these old things.

Any advice on getting a pocket watch for everyday use?

    Thanks Glen

I saw nice Omega at the antique store the other day, but the guy was asking 300$... I love mechanical watches, and pockets are nice too. Maybe you should check the Tissot line, for everyday wear, last time I saw, there were some nice pocket watches at a nice price...

I like pocket watches very much. If all pants had watch pockets, I'd carry no other. For a modern mechanical pocket watch, do a google on Molniya, a Russian made pocket watch. I love mine. I also have an antique one, Bureii Swiss made w/ the name Capitol on the face. Bought it from a shop on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh, Scotland. I used to have a Hamilton railroad model, but a burglar got it. They had the Capitol as well, but dropped it in the house before exiting. PTL!

I just got engraved pocket watches for my groomsmen, I think they are so cool. I wish I had gotten myself one, but I couldnt imagine that I would use a pocket watch that says "groom". Here is a great site for watches especially if you want them engraved.

I've got a few pocket watches. Nothing rare or special but I like them just the same. Just be careful buying pocket watches out there. Like straights, there are things to watch out for, especially when buying off of eBay.

There are modern ones (Swiss Army and a few others) and then there are the vintage ones. The vintage ones are usually more unique and have some character and can get quite expensive, but there's usually one that will fit anyone's price range. I would check out the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) to get more information. They are at: http://www.nawcc.org/

If you go with vintage, it's good to find a local watch repair person who's experienced with pocket watches. Many vintage watches you find will have problems like broken mainsprings, cracked jewels or they may not keep time properly and hence they will need some sort of service. If you have more questions, just PM me.

I have a few pocket watches and do not use the wrist type.

My everyday watch is a swiss army model given to me as a christmas present from the guys that worked for me in 1999, It is engraved "to a little man with a big heart" This is my pride and joy.

I have a pocket watch made by elgin that was an anniversary gift from my mom to my dad. It is also very special as you can guess.

I have a railroad watch that was my great great uncle watch that i acquaried thru research in family history or genealogy. also very special.

and lastly I have a railroad watch that I recently purchased from the local jewelry store.

I carry a mechanical pocket watch and do not wear a wristwatch. I own one or two, including one that my dad wore, but I don't wear them.

I carry a stainless steel mechanical Charles Hubert. Not expensive, but pretty high quality.

If I remember it correctly, for some time, even Swatch had a line of those. I dress too casually and live too actively to be able to use one even though I do love the style.

I have a taylor, pair case pocket watch made in 1840 in silver. It is very nice with a chain driven movement. Keeps rubbish time. Made in a village near to where I live.

I also have a new pocket watch I wore at my wedding, from http://www.agthomas.co.uk/Watches_JP2000.htm it keeps good time and people like it. Most of there watches are not that good but the pocket watches are OK.

I only buy mechanical watches, I have a small collection.
