Thanked: 70Not bad.
I hope they will develop the chemistry the original TG guys have. IIRC, in the beginning, the Brits didn't have the cohesiveness they demonstrate now.

Yea, that guy May replaced was terrible, and it took May a while to really fit in. But Clarkson was always Clarkson, and that alone held the show up. With US TG, my initial response was "Why are they using a stand up comedian I've never heard of? And a racer I've never heard of?"
PS - If they ever do a good episode, let me know so I can start watching. Until I hear otherwise, I'm just gonna pretend it doesn't exist.

Without Jeremy, Topgear would be about cars and that would make it boring as hell. Or at least to anyone except people who are interested in cars. With Jemery, it is a show that people who don't care about cars at all enjoy.
Or to be precise, without Jeremy, it would be like 'sixth gear' or whatever the other program is called. Bland.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

long ramblings of a disgruntled viewer.
Short story- I'm done no more TG USA for me.
its 4:30 am read the rest at own risk.
One huge difference is Jezzer was reviewing cars back in '89 for Top Gear when it was a automotive mag show what 5th gear is now Tiff (pro driver) was also on it, he heads up the 5th gear team.
I remember when Jeremy gave such a bad review of a Citron or something that the bbc actually apologized about it. That will never happen here due to the sponsorships. Even though they tried to put down the new Gulwing it was with kid gloves, and they weren't really sure why. MB is a major sponsor.
Anyway Jeremy quit the ratings dropped then Top Gear died. After channel 5 hired away the crew and started 5th gear, the bbc got the current crew together. Dawes sucked but they fixed it quick with May (with in the 1st season) and all of these guys had some cache behind them from the start.
So the UK Top Gear we know an love that started in 2002 had a huge leg up the format was tweaked over a few seasons and the dynamics grew but it was good from the start. (I have it all on disc.)
The US version is trying to follow a format with 3 unknown hosts.
Personally the only one of them that I think can drive is the guy with the trophies to prove it and Sir Stig. Some one else is doing most of the track driving for the other two, not to mention its easy to see 2 of them know next to nothing about the cars.
Now put the guy with that handlebar mustache from my classic car, Leno would have been interesting, and heck throw in Jessy James.
That would be a show, but don't call it Top Gear!
(when offered Jay Leno tuned down hosting, Good article on why )
I missed the tonight show this evening The TG USA crew was supposed to be on. Wonder if the network told Jay to make it a love fest.
Sorry about the rambling and ranting but I just saw ep 4 there were a couple of fun bits but these guys are really bad. The interviews are horrible and that track, well the track for the original was laid out by lotus for the purpose of doing power laps. The US version while it might be fun sucks for TV.
I started watching in the UK version in '96, I think I am going to stick with what works.
