Thanked: 234Should I purchase a Fedora?
I like them, when I was in the states over the summer I wore one often, it was a cheap one made from some kind of plastic mesh material, which was kind of ideal for the summer, not too hot.
I'm really tempted to pick up a vintage felt one, but I'm not totally confident I could pull it off over here, casually, like I could over there. If I was pulling it off at all!
There must be some 'casual' hat wearers on here, any advice? Should I just do it? I reckon it would go pretty nice with the 3/4 wool/cashmere over coat.
Unfortunately I only have one picture of me in the one I bought in the states, and it's hardly much to go on.

Thanked: 102Locke's Hats
Go to Locke's website and take a look at their Chelsa model fedora. I have wanted one in dark grey for years. Very expensive but worth every penny.

Akubra
I've got an Akubra Cattleman that I picked up while living in Australia. Love that hat. It's got enough brim to keep the sun off my neck while doing yard work and I like the look, besides.

Thanked: 1185I say go for it. I'm seldom seen without a hat out in public. For me it's Panamas mostly because of the prevailing climate here in Florida but I do own several wool felt fedoras as well. I'd think that the climate in the UK would make a wool felt fedora just the thing.
Akubra is a very well respected company and they make some really nice lids

This guy also has nice hats and reasonable prices. I've done business with him on a number of occassions and the service has always been outstanding

The answer is "YES!"
I recently purchased a fedora from Goorin Brothers. Their hats are a little trendy and some are "young," but they seem to be good quality at very reasonable prices.

I say yes. I bought a Mayser fedora and love it. I wear it or another hat almost every day. You should be able to find a store that carries them and from what I remember it was a reasonable price at the time, maybe around $200 but I don't know about the price now. Wear it because you want to, that's my vote.

Thanked: 1195I don't know about the whole fedora thing, it dregs up too many memories of Joey Jeremiah, which are probably best left in the 80's!
That might have been a joke that only our Canadian members will catch on to.

I say why not...if you like it and feel it suits your style then thats what truly mattersAsk Ryan here...half the time he sees me in a drivers cap and the other half sporting a pompador...sure people make their comments but it just reminds me i'm out of the norm.
