Thanked: 1185BS Story of the Week
So there I was this weekend at the flea market. Glass cases are a dead giveaway, knives are also a good indication. So I stroll up to this one guys booth and he literally has every dog gone knife ever made. So I ask him, "All these knives and nary a straight razor?" He says, "I've got some but there new, none of the antique variety." The first part of the sentence had my attention but everything after "but" let me know right away what the deal was. So we go over to this other case and he has several "Tomahawk" straights. He then gives me the bum rush. I then tactfully tell him, "That Chinese steel scares the *#@+ outta me." To be honest it was a really pretty razor however, it didn't take long to figure out that putting an edge on this thing would be like poopin' in a shoe. Besides, I don't need a really pretty letter opener.
So here comes the BS story of the week. Once he figures out he's not dealing with someone who thinks straight razors are just supposed to look cool, he comes out with.
"You know, the Chinese import steel from all over the world. This is probably made out of German steel." When I appeared unmoved, he himmed and hawed for a while then comes out of his mouth with BS Story #2 "This is actually an American company that just assembles their stuff in China." That was it, I was done. The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 198if he turned around and said that he shaves with one of those, would you have thrown your watch arm in the air to save it cause the boots would have been lost by that point.

Not to give the guy an excuse, but if I had a dollar for every time I've seen false advertising on a vintage razor (not to mention the lies from ebay sellers etc)... I'd be able to buy a lot more vintage razors.

Don't most American companies make their stuff in China? I don't know about the German steel. LOL

You know with all of the stories we get all of the time plus the ebay sellers I think that this thread could become a sticky.
