Default Olympus Evolt E500 vs. Nikon D70s anyone??

Okay, wondering if any of the photo bugs among us own an Olympus Evolt E500 SLR ?

I seriously looked at one having owned Olympus OM equipment before. I had an OM-1n, an OM-3 and OM-4 when I did pro work. When I recently went digitasl I chose a Nikon D70s but after a few weeks am feeling I made the wrong choice.

The Olympus has many B&W modes and enhancements built in which I really wanted as well as lighter and faster lenses in the more affordable range. When I got the Nikon I didn;t realize there is no B&W mode at all so I am limited to Photoshop to get the images I want.

So, anyone have one and can comment on usability? Anyone interested in a good deal on a very slightly used Nikon outfit?

    Thanks,
    Tony

I wanted to buy that Nikon D70S a while back but never got a chance to had to pay for other stuff

I know nothing of the Olympus really but from what I read the Nikon D70S is a great camera. Though also with digital you will use alot of Photoshop to work on the pictures. I bought 2 digital photo books so I could figure out what and how these things worked. SOrry I really don't have any good info for you but mayne check the photo forums out and see what they say. I sure you would find the exact answer you are looking for plus they might can suggest a camera that will suit your needs.

    PM sent.

    Larry,
I went through the forums endlessly and could not decide for sure. The Nikon seemed like the best bet but until I had it in my hands I didn't realize some of what was important to me was not there. I relied on a friend who owned one for advice too but he didn't fully understand certain features of the D70S and inadvertantly lead me down the wrong path. It's a great camera I could live with but was not really what I had hoped.

It's funny, in my pro days I was very picky on lenses, sharpness and speed of my lenses. Later I just wanted a top quality digital with an auto mode as well as the finer, manual features. Three weeks with the camera and I want all the details and settings I thought I would no longer care about.

I started with the OM system and as my work changed got a Hasselblad 500CM with a 60mm, 80mm and a 250mm,and a Hasselblad SWC (38mm). After that I went with large format and early processes like wet-plate. I built reproduction cameras for reeneactors, movies and the George Eastman house. I got burned out on all that and bought a vintage Leica M2 with a 35mm f3.5 Summaron for street photography. Never thought I would go digital though .

I have been researching the 8MP cameras for a little while now, getting ready to buy one of my own. I've used sevearl of them, and of the ones I've used, the Evolt
series os the best all around camera in the lot.

I've been using Olympus camera for years, and although I do the same look at all the candidates before I buy, I'm just about sure the Evolt will be my next camera.

I have a Hasselblad outfit that I'm going to sell, and as soon as that's done, the money from that will afford the Evolt for me.

I stick with my old Leica M3 double-stroke. Don't know much about these new-fangled cameras.

Tony, don't worry, Nikon D70 is very powerfull beast. What I would suggest is spend some time with Photoshop, learn the tricks, and in no time you'll have excellent pics...
