Seems like the marines didn't enjoy having their pal stabbed.

    Sequence of events:
    1. Dirtbag falls off the curb
    2. Marines attempt to "help him to his feet"

A flesh wound to a Marine for a laundry list of traumatic injuries to a dirt bag. Seems like a fair trade to me. The Toys for Tots campaign is legendary. Apparently the Marines have expanded their community service efforts to another program called "Kick a Dirt Bag's A$$"

The sentiment is good, even if it is not entirely accurate. This has become an urban legend with a few different variations going around. Regardless, the sentiment remains
1 Don't mess with the Marines

Ha ! love it . Reminds me of Arnie's great line in "Twins"

"I did nothing. The PAVEMENT was his enemy."
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Actually that goes way way back. I remember when I was in the Navy and if we caught a crew member stealing from another while we were in port we would take him up to the quarterdeck and along the way justice was dispensed. When the guy got up there and was questioned how he got all the bruises and contusions he would say "I fell down a ladder".
