Thread: Poll: What do you drive?

I have the "03 Passat, and my son owns a '90 VW Corrado G60 (supercharged) coupe.

Mine is my company car, and as I have to keep one that's less than 4 years old, I'll probably be buying an '07 Passat within the next few months. Maybe by the end of '06, even.

I have owned a lot of American cars, trucks, and vans, and they just don't hold a candle to many of the European and Japanese cars for quality. They are much better now than they were 10 years ago, but still don't do it for me.

After several trips to Europe, and driving several different cars while there, I had a new appreciation for what the American car compnaies weren't offering, so the choice of the VW was an easy one.

Everyone who has ridden in my VW has been impressed, and I've had several friends and acquaintances buy VW's since riding in mine.

My brother-in-law bought a Prius the 1st year they came out and loves it. My wife is thinking about getting one too.

well, right now, just the company plumbing van. my mustangs* not registered at the moment, im tryin to sell it. deff not my style. i love fast n mean, but theres 5 billion others just like it out there. once its sold im gonna be lookin at gettin a 1960 cadillac. long n mean then i can rig up a seperate fuel tank and pump in the trunk for flame throwers

1978 Land cruiser 2006 holden rodeo both 4wd and manual however you don't have to get out to put the hubs in on the new one and you press buttons to select which 4wd mode you want,thats about as auto,magic as I ever get,last time I ever buy a new one ,as I had never owned one before,so far its been dinged 3 times by the better half

1992 Honda Civic 5-Speed. 40 mpg mixed driving. 48 mpg highway. The hybrids can't do much better.

1997 honda civic hatchback cx (manual). all stock except i spent 150 bucks on speakers and a stereo that i could plug my ipod into. maybe when i graduate, if i stay in the area, i'll put an acura engine in it. my friend did so to his car (exact same as mine) and i swear it was the fastest thing i've ever been in, including another friend's 2004 mustang gt cobra, and my brother's old '72 chevelle ss.

right now i get 33 all city, 38-39 mixed, and 41-42 all highway. pretty sweet, but it seems low compared to my last car, a 1990 honda civic crx hf. that thing got almost fifty miles to the gallon. crazy, but i gave it to my girlfriend (with somehting like 200000 miles on it and it still runs) because i commute 150 miles three times a week to school so i needed something more reliable.

I think we have a large enough sample for me to reveal my sinister plan and how the reality compared to it...
As you gentlemen know, to be a straight razor shaver, you have to have a bit of a do it yourself attitude, like going the extra mile for personal enjoyment or better performance.
As you also know driving stick fits this profile perfectly, but it is rare here in North America. When I walk the parking lots, I check out the cars and I also follow what my friends and neighbors are driving. By my FREE estimate, about 80% of cars on the roads are automatics.
Even if we exclude our European members from the tally, there is still an unusually high number of people who drive stick here.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity and I am curious about your comments as well, so feel free to offer them.

P.S. I have nothing against cars with automatic transmission. People can get them for various reasons, like not being able to find the car they REALLY like in stick, daily stop and go commute (I'd want to keep my left knee as well lol), multitasking while driving, upbringing etc etc etc. I just expected a higher proportion of stick-shift drivers among straight razor users and it looks like my assumption was correct.

1990 Nissan pickup. It's made a good, hard-working farm truck, and reliable commute vehicle for university.

My main ride is a 2001 Trek 4500 mountain bike. The fenders, the rack and panniers make it more of a commuter bike, though.
