The Big Purge ..... Accumulated Boxes
In a thread I posted a couple of years ago here I asked if anyone else saves boxes. Between the flattened and non flattened boxes I had to traverse a path to navigate within my 2 bedroom apt. Flattened boxes inside of boxes and a 6 year and 9 month accumulation of them ... in closets, nooks and crannies, under the bed .... went to the dumpster this day. It was painful but I feel a sense of freedom now as me and the cat can get around easier.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Wow Jimmy you have so many straight razors the boxes just fill up your apartment? Why you must have thousands and thousands of razors. no small feat. As a matter of fact...oh...you mean the other types of boxes.
Personally I don't save em. If I buy something and it's shipped in a box I keep it a month or so and then trash it. Unless you move a lot and have need of them I wouldn't keep them. I've seen some people who keep boxes and their place looks like a warehouse after a while. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I have gone through a few box collections. In college I was into computers and active on a computer forum; my whole closed was filled with boxes. It got whittled down during in-college moves between dorms, but I kept a lot because I just threw my stuff into tons of boxes without really packing anything and moved that way. After college, I whittled down the collection a bit during the first move. Then it built back up over the subsequent year, only to be reduced again in the next move. Now I've been in this place for a bit over a year, and I haven't let it grow as much as I used to.
Logically, I'm not sure why I keep them. I rarely ship anything but razors, and they go in small boxes. I guess I always think "Next time I move, these may come in handy," even though the smaller ones really aren't that useful for moving purposes.

Thanked: 3795My wife and I are closing on a house tomorrow. We have been grabbing every box we can lay our hands on. We have been living out of boxes for the last 6 months, first on my dad's farm and currently in an apartment. Most of our stuff is still in our house in Iowa, and that is going to take a lot more boxes. I am so sick of boxes. I'm not going to save them. I'm going to recycle them and be glad to be rid of them.

Boxes for moving/shipping/storing stuff? No need to save them here. If you want boxes for any reason, just ask the closest store and they will give you as many boxes you need.

Jimmy, if I weren't married I'd be in the same boat. As it is, I have to purge every 3 months or so...it's painful, almost.
I can't figure out why.
I love boxes in general, though. Nice wood, metal or even sturdy cardboard. It's like, every one could have something awesome inside, even if I know it's empty.

I make fun of my wife for keeping "nice boxes" but they did come in awful darned handy when we moved a couple months ago. 4 years of her keeping almost every Costco diaper and wipe box took up a ton of space but they were handy. I still tease her about it, but hey, that's what husbands are for, right?
