I'm holding out for a viable Atheist/Humanist candidate, just because it will mean the American people are starting to think about what really matters in a human being...not the god they bow to, but the actions they take.
Other than that, a president that realizes the US is not the only country in the world, who shows respect and nuance in their dealings with other nations, and is willing to do the right thing even if it means losing votes from morons.

Thanked: 1936If a candidate was honest and was of moral value, they would be my second choice. If they were a true, key word, Christian they would be of honest and of moral value. This young country was based on Christianity and since we are on opinions, the further this country gets away from God, the further it is going down the tubes.
We can really get it going by combining religion and politics in one thread....Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

If by this you mean something like Christianity was the majority religion of the colonists, it was the majority religion at the time of the country's founding and has remained by far the dominant religion throughout the history of our country that is clearly true. If you mean that the US was founded as a Christian nation I would point out that there is no support for that proposition in the Declaration of Independence or The Constitution.

True so we need to remember that we are friends and gentlemen engaging in a courteous discussion on what attributes we would seek in a presidential candidate. Courteous being the operative word. Let's try and keep it that way so that we remain friends and gentlemen. If the thread goes off topic and becomes a soap box for various points of view it will be closed.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1185Character, leadership and integrity. Someone who understands that it's the government's job to provide equal opportunity NOT equal results. A person who believes in market capitalism and knows that trickle down economics is not a theory or an agenda, it's a fact. Most importantly a president who wouldn't put generations of Americans in debt to pay off his union supporters and cronies and then have the stones to throw Congress under the bus as if they're the ones who blew all that money for absolutely no benefit.
P.S.: Mick, I'd take George W Bush any day over this dolt that runs our country now.
P.P.S: I think America is long overdue for a real man president, a guy who rocks a big ole stash or some chin whiskers. For Example:
Also, a gruff old bastard that smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish and don't give a damn who knows it (a la FDR, Churchill, Truman, etc.)Last edited by 1OldGI; 06-30-2011 at 01:59 AM.
