    IIRC several of the founders were masons, and in masonry, there is a requirement to believe in a supreme being, be it Allah, Odin or God. It doesn't matter which. So I don't think they cared that much.
    Religion was also purposely left out of the constitution.

    But perhaps Shooter is right. Maybe we should leave religion out of this thread.

    As a conservative I am conflicted. The revisionists in 1954 added that phrase to the pledge, which is bad. I like tradition. At the same time it makes the liberals mad, so it is kind of good.
