Thanked: 267America is great every day when I wake up, make a cup of tea, and watch the sunrise. Chances are that the police will not knock on my door about the e-mail that I wrote last night about how dumb one politician, or another, is. I can come and go as I wish because I am FREE! Free to do any work that I choose or go to a grocery store that is the envy of the modern world. If you don't think that America is a great country then put your hand up and offer you place in it to anyone who wants it. There are people who would literally risk their lives and any or all of their worldly goods to trade places with you.
I am blessed and I know it and as I start most days I hope things will be better for my children. One thing I do know is that the "possibility" exists......not all humans on this spinning dirt ball can even imagine just that.
Take Care,
Richard

Duh, 1775, of course. It was called Great Britain, for God's sake!

I'd argue that it's still the greatest country in the World... although I couldn't disagree more with the changes that have been made since my birth up until today
edit: For clarification I'm 22 so I haven't had a President that wasn't a Bush or Clinton... do I count Obama as a President? To go further...Should I even count the others?

Tomorrow's going to be really great, I think. Well, maybe not. Heck, I don't know.

Thanked: 983America was great pre white man...Just like Australia. For the record, I'm a white man. White men just take the natural beauty and turn it to shite to suit their own delusion of perfect. Bet that comment starts a few pointed remarks, but that's just my humble opinion.

America is still great and will always be. This is the greatest country in the world and I am so blessed to live here!
We started out strong as a nation. We built up, expanded, and finally became a superpower (some would consider us the world's only remaining superpower. Others would kick us out of that distinction.) We have constantly provided need to other countries (and have had help provided these past two wars. Thanks Great Britain! You are all amazing.)
IMO, yeah, we might be heading downhill a little bit, but we still have a chance to get back to the right laws and leaders. But most importantly, we love God, country, and neighbors, and I'm so thankful to call the great US of A my home!
Oh, and we have mom, baseball, and apple pie, in that order.
This is the last verse of our national anthem, and I believe it speaks for our nation more than my words can say...
'Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!'Last edited by Christian2100; 07-05-2011 at 04:05 AM.

When America was great: Gas was at 20 cents, a pack of smokes cost 30 cents, sales tax was 3 cents, it cost 3 cents to mail a letter anywhere, my folks would give me a dollar on Saturday nite, my buddies and I would walk into town to see the lastest movie, I would hand my dollar over to the ticket taker and she would give me 50 cents in change, we would walk inside to the snack counter and i would order a coke @ 15 cents and a box of popcorn for a quarter, I would hand them my remaining 50 cents and get a dime in return. Two cartoons, one before the main attraction and another after the final credits, on the way home I would hit up the vending machine at the gas station for another Coke and there went my last dime. A dollar well spent back in the day.
