I was there back in '64 I guess it was. Lived on No. Rampart a couple of blocks down from Canal at the time. Big party Mardi Gras was back then. Probably still is.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I was about 13 then, not yet in full swing of things.

I have been there when it was just a normal weekend and that was crazy enough for me.

I went down in 98. I was 23, my best friend is from there. I had a blast. Dangerous as hell. You'll see things you won't forget. Have fun.

I'm with Slarti on this one. Any weekend night is enough - I wouldn't want to be there when it was crazier.

I forget the name of the hotel I stayed at, but it was on the corner of Bourban and Canal. It was just a normal weekend and boy was it "interesting". Don't, I repeat, Don't go past where their aren't any streetlights on Bourban if you are straight.

I lived in NOLA when I was 22 with my best friend a couple of blocks off St Charles and Napoleon. Mardi Gras was a blast and a blur. I spent almost every night in the quarter when I lived there. As for sights seen during Mardi Gras, mammaries were shown everywhere you turned, people urinating in the streets. Police using their batons at will, those were the days
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

I was down just before thanksgiving three years ago for some work. I wad only there during the day, got some beignets for brunch and strolled down bourbon st and around that area for a bit.
It wad dirty and nasty. I much prefered my couple days in New Iberia.

I used to live in New Orleans, and I always recommend that people who are thinking of visiting NOT go during mardi gras, you just don't get the real experience. That said, mardi gras is a lot of fun. No place like it on earth.
