Any Yogi's Amung Us?
As the title says: discuss if you'd like or share your story or what you've learned or want to learn
Quick About Me:
Before I started yoga I was a runner and a swimmer. And before that I used to just lift weights at the gym. I've been working out for almost 10years now, and within the last year I think I finally understand what it means to be fit. I'm not it LOL. There is alot of room for improvement, room that wasn't made by lifting weights (no really, I got stronger, but not healthier, and certainly not bigger LOL), or by running (though on any day I can run 5miles, which I feel isn't a huge distance, but at least I can do it), or by swimming laps (but boy do I know how to swim now haha). I started yoga just over a year ago, I wanted to try it, I thought it would be good for my flexibility. What I discovered was a world filled with personal struggles, conquering emotions, feats of strength and balance and yes of course much improved flexibility. Yoga has made me calm down, find my breathing and assess life with a calm and level head. And perhaps thats the most positive thing for me; I feel healthy, mentally and physically.
Trying to Learn:
Currently, I'm working really hard on my inversions. Theres something to being upside down. I feel like a ninja or an acrobat or something LOL
A Quick Message:
All my MALE counterparts out there yoga needs you. Its not just for women. Over the past year I've seen very athletic guys get out done by 5foot tall middle aged women. Yoga is hard, are you up to the challenge?
Anyways I'm babbling when we could be discussing
Namaste

You know HFN, I may go try to find a book on Yoga at the library. Sound slime a good time to me.

There are several things I enjoy. I like the challenge, every class is difficult, especially the ones I go to. As much as its a physical exercise, its a mental exercise as well. You begin to recognize when you are doubting yourself and you start to overcome. And in the end, for lack of a better description, you become "yoga stoned", its like an accomplishment every time you finish a class. And I feel happy as hell LOL

Hey, HFN, I'm with you! I did ashtangha yoga (100 degrees+ in the room during the duration) for about a decade. Blissful and extraordinarily hard. I agree that every class ends with a sense of accomplishment. And I'm convinced, particularly for men, that the practice takes 5-10 yrs off your appearance.

Right on PCG! Thats awesome. I think the problem we have as men is we don't have that range of motion that women seem to have. Later on in life that becomes a real problem for us. If we all did a little yoga we'd all be, like you said "5-10 years younger".
