Lifelong Floridian here. The brunt of Irene is dodging us but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before one hits the state somewhere.

Thanked: 124Don't be worried, Cat 3 hurricanes arent much unless you happen to live under sea level and have decades of corruption undermining your infrastructure. I've been through about ten hurricanes and the most danger I've ever been in during one was when I almost got in a fight with a really big guy during a hurricane party.

Yep, the storm's on a beeline for my location (central Massachusetts). I expect tons of rain and high winds. Other than trees going down... Anyway, we'll know on Monday a.m.

She might come right up the Chesapeake, if so things may get really wet here in DC. The stores here were mobbed even yesterday.

Thanked: 14We're pretty much assured to get hit. How hard remains to be seen. I'm in northwestern NJ.

Thanked: 240Central NJ checking in, looks like we will be getting it pretty good mandatory evacuations for those on the island and voluntary for those on the bay side. You know things are getting serious when they are suspending tolls on the parkway.
Edit: they just said that parkway will be closed southbound at 8pm tonight south of Exit 98 (little below mid-state) as is eastbound travel onto barrier islands. Seems like a pretty big deal.Last edited by thehekler; 08-26-2011 at 04:43 PM.

I'm glued to the news right now, hoping to buy a few things before I head home tonight. I'm hoping to have fun as long as no one gets hurt. I always enjoy seeing mother nature in full force, kind of a reminder of how small we really are, a good ego check once in a while is good for the brain PROVIDED no one gets hurt.
