Thanked: 4The best rum for the buck that I've found locally (IA) is 7yr old Flor de Cana. Man, that is some very smooth and tasty stuff!

Just trided that Pyrate XO in a Mojito (of all things). I know it's too good for that, but that's what I was served, and I must say it was the finest Rum experience I have ever had.

Im a huge scotch fan, but can honestly say I have never tried a good rum...or a rum that wasnt mixed with something else for that matter.

Josh, try the El Dorado. I've also only been using rum mixed with coke and hot tea until I tried this little gem and realized that I could drink it on its own. Goes down like mother's milk.

I just can't get into rum. In general, I don't like sweet drinks. I don't drink "??? and coke" drinks at all, for example. I tried a mojito, didn't like it. Tried many other sweet drinks, just can't get into them. Don't like sweet liquors that much either although I do love Bailey's Irish Creme in my coffee sometimes.... that's about the limit.
I guess that's why I'm a Scotch man.

I'm with you on sweet drinks though, Gary. I can't drink coke or the like at all. A decent rum by itself is another matter and I'd put some of the really good rums up with the malts. There's a phrase in my head trying to make itself heard - something about me liking my drinks as I like my razors - old and straight.
