Default It's Bordering on Mental Illness

I was reading this great article about a viking burial find in Scotland, and...well, one line in particular got my attention much more than everything else.

Give it a read and see if you can guess what caught my eye:

I'm not sure. I read it three times and don't see anything that jumps out at me.

Vikings want their weapons sharp. Sharp enough to kill fools in Valhalla, should the need arise.

Indeed, as soon as I saw it, I startled googling Norwegian whetstones.

Apparently Eidsborg was a huge source of whetstones into the 1970s. There is now a whetstone museum there.

    I've got a problem...

If an SRPer goes to this museum they could write an article just like this one about the miraculous whetstone finds they unearthed from the 1970s.

"In previous seasons my work has examined evidence of changing beliefs and life styles in the area through a study of honing practices in the art deco and big hair periods 90 years ago and 30 years ago respectively."

"It has also yielded evidence for what will be one of the best-dated wooden rickety whetstone boxes in Norway when all of our post-excavation work is complete."

And sadly this stone will end up in a museum instead of making my razors or knives happy. Selfish, I know.

IIRC, Howard (The Perfect Edge) had a Viking whetstone pictured in his hone museum on his website.

Edit, photos are down, Howard says temporarily. Text is still there and maybe he will shoot the photos to you if you ask him.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Donovan McNabb is a Viking whetstone, and given our season so far, I have an ax to grind with him.
