    Default Gun advice needed

I'd like some help in choosing a CCW pistol. I think the biggest caliber I can go with is 9mm because size is a big (no pun intended) issue. My concerns are concealability and cost. My budget is limited and the person I'm asking for is small. Purse carry isn't an option for her most of the time.

I don't know much about guns, but my forum friend Gratewhitehuntr does.
This is what he had to say on the subject, a couple of years ago:

That's so funny, I was reading that very post last night. I haven't seen GWH here for a while. I think he's not so active here any more?

Check out the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. It was suggested to me by a local police officer. It is small and lightweight. Very user friendly as well.

Nope. He was absent for a while, then came back, and then dropped off the map again.
I was thinking about him just now, when I searched for that post. I'll shoot him an email to see how he is doing these days.
Oh, and did you ever notice anything peculiar about this smily?

I think the Smith guns are a bit out of my price range. I may have to bite the bullet and pay over $300 but I'm hoping I can find something used for less.

The JA-9mm is priced very reasonably (same with the .380) but Jimenez Arms has a very mixed reputation. I need something that will reliably put out a few fast shots, not something that will hold up for a million rounds at IPSC competitions.

You can't go wrong with a pistol, double action, pistols can't jam, 357mag or 38 special is good, SW,Ruger,Tauras to name a few. They are not complicated and easy to carry!

    "for her"
Find a good range and a dealer or friend that
will let you and her test fire some choices.

If the owner is not comfortable and well matched
hitting the intended spot is not going to happen.
If you cannot hit what you intend it is the wrong
    choice.

In general there is a reason the 9mm is so popular.
Even 38 cal wad cutter target loads are a much better choice
than some of the other hotter more powerful loads that cause
    flinching and other bad habits.

If someone carries and does not practice on a regular
    basis... be worried.
