I like the SIG 220/245 series so much that I gave up a Series 70 Combat Commander I'd owned for 27 years. They're rightly known as one of the most accurate out of the box factory pistols made, and personally I like the DA/SA configuration with a decocker. The SIG decocker rides the hammer all the way down for a gentle landing unlike the HK USP.
I don't know about left handed issues with these but as far as the quality of design and build I don't think you'd be disappointed.
Are you a member over at Sigforum? Lots of good info there along with Sig fanatics. I know because I'm one of them.

I carried a sig P220 on the job for many years. They are fine quality weapons and they will never let you down. Having said that and having carried barreta's,Glocks and H&Ks my favorite and I think the best is H&K. I had a USP .40cal however they constructed a special model for our agency and everthing was beefed up because our agency had custom loads that a regular model would never take for any period of time without failing.

Glocks are alright, I dont really like the way they shoot, but they are very convienant sidearms. I carry a Glock 19 in my truck. I've only had a glock jam once, and it was after firing a few mags of ammo underwater at the river.
I absolutely love my 1911 but I dont think I would want to carry it as a concealed weapon though. To heavy to really carry comforably all day unless your using a tactical leg holster.
Barretta's I sort of hold a grudge against... Im sure they are good guns, but after using them in the military... I would never buy, own or depend on one.
If you want to diversify, buy a revolver =P
