You have taken this Verse of Scripture out of context. This refers to a "brother" being another believer (In Christ). The koran/quran/qu ran has stated that non muslims are infidels, therefore not a brother. Anyone who is not a believer in allah/mohammad/the prophets is an infidel, ie, not a brother. I am not considered a brother due to me being an infidel. I am not their's they are not mine.
"Jesus wept"
Not certain where you get this reading. There's nothing about the context of Matt. 6 or 7 to indicate that this was to apply exclusively to Christians. It's been a while since I read the Bible, so I went back and checked and I'm not seeing it. Perhaps you could point out the relevant verse?
Nowadays it's quite common for someone to be interviewed in the press and by clever editing the intended meaning of their words can be altered considerably.
It's often the same when short Bible quotations are used, without the context of the longer passage of the book in which they appear. The intended meaning can sometimes be lost, or misconstrued completely.
It's clear though, that the main theme of Jesus's teaching is that you should love your enemy without condition being attached.
Never does Jesus say to hate anyone.
"Love your neighbor as you would love yourself."
Without going to the pulpit, there was a discussion between Jesus and some others about who was a neighbor, it boiled down to the idea that everyone is a neighbor. The story of the good Samaritan.
Although i'm not a religious person nor member of any religious organization, i've always thought that this is the king rule what most religions are about. Love and do not hate. Behave.
I believe that most people have sort of a moral sense or moral code, universally, regardless of their ideology or religion. Unfortunately being a member of any religion or any other organization doesn't make people immune of losing that moral sense.
Every religion has their own hard line minorities who explain their justification to hate. To hell with extremists and their one eyed poisonous blindness.
I'm thinking there may be a hint of sarcasm in gugi's post. May be wrong though. :)
