After school jobs, newspaper route, body shop, tile plant, brick plant, from age 15 on through high school and a couple of years of college. 21st birthday in vietnam, US Army, pathfinder. Out of the service and finished college. Married, worked as a sales rep for a couple of food companies in So Cal. Did overseas construction for a few years as a purchasing manager, Yemen, Mexico, South America, Saudi Arabia in the early 80's where our crew built a USMTM air strip, barracks, mess hall, and general housing. Tired of traveling landed a job as a purchasing agent for a local government irrigation district, worked my up to admin services director, handled hr, safety, labor relations,
and risk management. Retired after 25 years in 2010. Enjoying retirement but numerous health problems from agent orange exposure will beat me in the end. Longtime cigar smoker, enjoyed doing leaded glass work for many
years and now restoring straight razors to pass the time. I am most fortunate to be able to take as much time as I feel like to enjoy a straight razor shave and the associated pleasures.Bob

Jaeger, or jäger is a sort of a special unit. Actually not so special but specialized to operate on certain type of areas or terrain.
Coastal jaegers where i worked was maybe sort of a marines.
Originally the name jaeger comes from Finnish units that served in German army at WW1, and later came back here and defeated the red army in our civil war in 1918. My great grandfather was one of them.
OT, but actually the name goes lot further into history. The bible says that baby Moses was in the water, abandoned and weeping deeply for his poor destiny. Some smartass said that he surely was the first coastal jaeger there ever wasLast edited by Sailor; 12-10-2011 at 10:51 AM.

What do I do... now... ?
Nothing that will ever earn me any real money but maybe one day I'll grow up & get a real job but yeah, at 56 rapidly going on 57, I'm dreamin'
atm I hone & restore razors & teach martial arts. I also live with & somewhat look after my 83 year old father. He's not bad physically but bordering on Altzheimer's so he keeps me on my toes.
What I did ?
At 18 did an Auto. Eng. apprenticeship, (grease monkey). Got to drive a lot of 'cool' exotic cars & developed a thorough disdain for most of them. I'm both lazy & pragmatic & if I have to unbolt 6 carburettors to remove 12 spark plugs I don't care how much the car costs I instantly see fault Was moonlighting in bands as a singer & played blues harp. My claim to fame was my piano player. Geoff Fatt from the "Wiggles" . Damn I wish I 'd followed him rather than being the Pete Best Wiggle I might have some money now
Girlfriend wanted to buy a house so eventually left music & drove cabs doing some crazy long shifts. Broke up with the girl, she got the house & all I got was a bad back from years of working on cars & driving cabs.
Soooo. moving right along I learnt remedial massage to help my back. Did that for a short while but got bored rubbing people the right way. Yep still doing martial arts on & off since age 12. Moved on in alternative therapies to Homoeopathy . Met another girl & followed her to the Snowy mts. in 1990 & started my own business practising homoeopathy & massage & now teaching martial arts. 13 years in the mountains & another separation on, I moved back to Sydney. Got a real job packing boxes Made more money in 2 years than 13 years in the bush but the lifestyle was just no comparison. Still here in Sydney since 2003 yada, yada, yada. See first paragraph.Last edited by onimaru55; 12-10-2011 at 10:46 AM.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I started delivering papers at 12, then became a bread baker. Enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 and remained for 22 years. I was an Intelligence Analyst for about 17 of those years, with a short stint in Law Enforcement. I retired, but I was stop lossed and forced to stay on. During those two years I became the Superintendent of a large military training center, a technical training school. Finally, in late 2003 I was allowed to retire for real. My only regret was that they would not let me test for promotion during my stop-loss. I leveraged that last job into a contracting job for the Federal government, in Education and Training. After a few years in contracting my boss pulled me aside one day and said "you need to work on your credentials". I was just a retired enlisted guy after all, without much education, who had been making do on my common sense and a little experience. Valid criticism.
Currently I am working on my Doctorate in Education, and I am starting a position with the U.S. Government next month, in Training and Education. I'd say both the stop loss and the criticism from my boss were the best things that happened in my career.Last edited by AFDavis11; 12-10-2011 at 01:33 PM.

Thanked: 1262My life has been pretty boring and uneventful compared to you all. Washed some dishes, dug some ditches, stocked shelves, unloaded trucks, joined then unjoined the army in the span of about 30 minutes.
Now I sit in front of a computer screen drinking coffee all day. I miss digging ditches sometimes.....
