Thread: Hollywood Legend dies at 80

Us old codgers will remember this guy's best work along side Johnny Weismueller in Tarzan. He died last weekend at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor, Florida
Cheetah, chimp star of Tarzan movies, dies at 80

Yeah, Cheetah was great! Tarzan would be tied up, about to be boiled and Cheetah would get all the animals together and come riding in on an elephant. Good old days. Rest in Peace

Actually this is in dispute. No chimp has ever lived that long and the owner or caretaker conveniently destroyed the body and lost all the paperwork.

An old timer yes, Cheetah? Who can say.

Can't find the link right now but there was a story obout this on NPR, I think, last week. It's been confirmed that the real Cheetah died a long time ago.

I heard that he later played Godzilla. It appears that he was typecast and got into a rut. No director/producer could ever see him playing anything other than a monkey.

There are rumors, however, that Cheetah played Lassie as well. If he did, he should have received an Oscar.

So I suppose that does make him a legend.

It was really a midget in a suit.
