Anyone catch How straight razors are made on the TV show how it's made? They showed the Dovo factory and how they laser etch and do gold wash. Pretty interesting right up to where they sharpened them... The stone was all dished out and I can't figure out how after 3-5 sloppy passes the blade was shave ready and passes a hanging hair test.

If you've ever shaved w/ a factory Dovo edge, you'll have a different view of what they call 'shave ready'.

Pinklather is right about a factory edge! While I've never had a DOVO factory edge shave I have had a Revisor factory edge shave. The factory edge shave really wasn't 'bad' it just wasn't great! When I shaved after re-honing the blade it was wonderful! Ask Pinklather, as he's tried the edge!

As far as their hanging hair test; If you noticed, they use an synthetic 'hair' for the testing instead of an actual human hair removed from a persons head. They pull the 'hair' from a bundle and it looks more like a miniature broom straw than a 'hair'. While this does provide 'consistency' to the test it really is comparing apples to oranges.

i shaved with my "shave ready" dovo forestal right from the factory and like others said it wasnt great but it wasnt too bad either...just a little tugging but i was still able to get close to bbs with it after 2 passes
