Thanked: 884My "casual" footwear is a pair of White's Packers with 14" tops.
My "formal" footwear is either a pair of White's Lineman boots with 18" tops or Justin lace up's with steel toes.
Made in the USA by "Mericans!" LOL
To each their own.

The only actual 'shoes' I own are made in the USA by Red Wing, where I used to get work boots when I did ironwork, or New Balance. I buy the higher end USA made variety.
USD doesn't buy what it used to when I was a young man. Referring to chronological age, I read that "60 is the new 40." Maybe so, but for sure $100.00 is the new ten bucks.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

When I want good foot wear I buy combat boots. If I want something fancier for church or whatever, I buy the 3$ shoes at the thrift store and have them re heeled.
Speaking of the 100$ is the new ten bucks, you are not far off. I went to the coin store to buy a roll of silver dimes like we had when we were younger, the 5$ roll cost $133 and some change. It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

If you want a good pair of casual shoes get a pair of mephisto's. The quality is superior and they last forever.

I had a similar experience about a month ago.
I had a friend call me last week from the Portland, Or goodwill and he said that there was a perfect pair of Allen Edmonds there for $40 in my size. Needless to say I bought them. I am getting tired of what has been arriving lately in my post.
I could tell you a horrid story about an overcoat I purchased where the liner wasn't even attached in places.

Yeah, I think I will call AE next week and perhaps purchase directly from them. I had ordered from one of the big internet sites (I think part of amazon), as they have excellent returns policy - apparently they have good enough deal on shipping that give you free return label. In any case, the shoe on AE's website looks just fine:
But the close up at the vendor's site show the things I got in person. It's quite possible that these are indeed seconds:
And TBS, I took a quick look at the mephisto shoes, and I liked the Libio model, will have to find out if they have it in non pebble-grain brown.

So your casual shoes are nicer than my dress shoes, which are these Timberland - Men's City Adventure Stormbuck Refined Plain Toe Waterproof Oxford. I guess that's why you work at a university and I work at a high school.
Now I know nothing about nice shoes, but my Tim's have held up for a few years now, and they are waterproof to boot.
