OK, the aforementioned spiking of the football will need to be postponed. Call me crazy but I thought this one would be a slam dunk. Who knew Justice Roberts was a kool-aid drinker. I'm looking at starting up a new business that sells toilet paper with the Constitution printed on it. It seems to be a common sentiment among our benevolent leaders. They're all sworn to defend the Constitution but at the moment that promise appears about as good as any other that they'll make to the people of this country.

Politics aside though, I think we can all agree that the way that the Affordable Healthcare Act passed through Congress was to put it nicely, anything but typical. To be honest, the whole thing had a bit of a stench to it and like Nancy Pelosi said, "We'll have to pass it to see what's in it." Unfortunately it appears that by the time we figure out all the booby traps in this thing we'll all be significantly lighter in the wallet.

Funny, those are the kinds of sentiments they expressed about Social Security when they passed it.

    Highly partisan, polar opposite views...

    "you are trashing the constitution!"
"no YOU are trashing the constitution!"

Yep, seems pretty typical to me...

I may not know a ton, but I've learned that "you are trashing the constitution" is now code for "how dare you not agree with my viewpoint"

Gee, look what a great job the government did managing that program, soon they'll be in charge of my health!? What a swell thought, I'm so glad I have leaders like that making sure I'm taken care of.

Can someone give me a cliff's notes version of what specifically about the act you like or don't like.
Maybe I can't read between the lines well, but it seems like people on both sides think the act does things that, from my understanding, it doesn't do.
    What am I missing?

Why is no one concerned about Chief Justice Roberts' opinion as it relates to taxation as a means to bypass the limitations of the commerce clause?
Why is no one concerned about what will happen when the party opposite of them is in power?

If you haven't done so, and you get a chance, you should read Justice Roberts' opinion. I think a lot of people that are currently doing a "happy dance" might not be so happy any more, and I think those that are sulking will be briefly entertained, but should also be very concerned.
Most of the comments I've read in various places on the internet, regarding the decision have focused on the act (and probably rightfully so) but there are many other things to discuss - things that could potentially have a far bigger impact than an act that, from what I can tell, doesn't do as much as people think it does.

Having worked in the med field for over 40 yrs/knowing hundreds of top tier surgeons,75% of which have cash only practices (they will not see any medicare patients).
This is the way the new system will work.Everyone will get med care, from mostley 3rd world Docs who are poorley trained, who will be willing to provide care for 10 cents on the dollor.
The feds really do not care about quality medicine, only quantity, they have no clue what it is.

What specifically about the act leads you to that conclusion?

You've got to read the other justices too.
Roberts is smart, very smart, he's also young and a chief justice, and plays a long game. From what I can tell he's still reversing almost a century of rulings over the commerce clause, which is probably far more important than this specific legislation. It looks like the judicial activism is here to stay.

On the more positive note, the contempt vote against Holder was truly bipartisan. It's all win-win-win!!!!
