No offense to anyone else, but this simple song pretty much sums up how I feel:
BTW, I was raised a christian, and have read the entire Old and New Testaments multiple times. I can't deny that I learned some moral principles that still guide me in life to this day-- but overall, I find the main premise of the scriptures to be preposterous. Just my 2 cents.

The late great expository preacher , the Reverend Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, was asked if he would debate a skeptic in a public forum. He politely declined. Later, in one of his books, he explained that it is the Word of God. He had too much respect for it to 'cast his pearls before swine'. (my paraphrase)
In his introduction to "Studies In The Sermon On The Mount" he starts out by saying that,
"There is nothing more important in the Christian life than the way in which we approach the Bible and the way in which we read it. It is our textbook, it is our only source, it is our only authority.
We know nothing about God and about the Christian life in a true sense apart from the Bible. We can draw various deductions from nature (and possibly from various mystical experiences) by which we can arrive at a belief in a supreme Creator. But I think it is agreed by most Christians and it has been traditional throughout the long history of the Church that we have no authority save this Book.
We cannot rely solely upon subjective experiences because there are evil spirits as well as good spirits' there are counterfeit experiences. Here, in the Bible is our sole authority."
In 1st Corinthians chapter 2 Paul says that the Holy Spirit confers the gift of faith .... it is not a choice that an individual makes intellectually or emotionally. The 'natural man does not receive it. It is spiritually discerned. In the book of Ephesians, chapter 2 verse 8 Paul says we are saved by grace through faith, and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.
I don't like these threads that open up an opportunity for skeptics to dig themselves in deeper than they already are. The day will come when we all have to stand before the living God and give an account of all we've said and done.

Thanked: 2027Have read them all, just because I have a need for knowledge, very little of what I have read makes much sense to me.
Do not understand the Jewish,the Mormens,the muslems,etc.
I may be one of the chosen ones (and I thank whoever for that) I say my prayers every night and every morning when I awake,I am a christian so I guess my contact is God or in a pinch his son.
I was born (as we all were) with a sense of right and wrong,Being fortunate and watched over (by someone) I have grown older and maintained what I was born with))) with the lifestyle I once lived I should have been taken out of the gene pool many decades ago.
I guess my point is,you do not need bibles, you need no sermons, you need no directions, you have all you need within your brainbox, has been there since the day you fell out of your mamas bottom, use it

Thanked: 1936Ok, so much for "fishing".
Lets talk about a 41 year old "scholar" that I know quite well. He studied Biology & Business in college, evolution was what he could lay his hands on and have the "proof" in his hands upon visiting the appropriate museums for human remains. Then we have the dinosaurs and all that as well. He thoroughly believed in evolution, it was fact for him as he could lay his hands on the proof. He wasn't raised in a churchgoing environment, however he "knew" there was a God/Higher Power. Who he was, he didn't know...but there had to be as there was this "feeling" always present in his life. He too picked up the Bible to further his education about a book he had heard so much about, but to comment on it he had to read it and study it. This book touched him. He studied it more closely, peeling back it's "layers". It took him several years to break it down enough for him to understand it. What happened from there...he later became a Christian himself in his mid-30's.
Santa Claus is real. Hogwarts is real...in the books. The Middle of the Earth is what I call hell both literally due to the core temperature & my beliefs, thank God I'm not going there.
Yes, I'm that 41 year old. Now, I ask you this "commiecat". Have you read the Bible and understand it's content? If you have, I welcome your "stirring of the pot". If you have not read the Bible, your comments have no measure. If you would like a copy of the Bible, I will gladly send one.

Gentlemen.
I have closed this thread as this is just to explosive to be left out there.
Basically, we are an international group of shaving enthusiasts, from all kinds of believes and faiths, so lets stay off this topic in respect of each other.
