Thanked: 884My boy
He's my stepson, but his mother and I've pretty much raised him. He came into my life 9 years ago. He graduated high school May 30. He went to work as a "summer hand" on the road crew where I work on June 1st. He's been out there with all the grumpy old men and the kids on the "over lay crew". It's fuggin HOT, dirty, hard work. He doesn't work for me. His bosses are very complimentary of him. I guess he knows he'll answer to me if he starts messin up. LOL
Caught him unaware that I was watching him today.
He's the one with the shovel.
That hot mix is around 200°F and the air temp was in the high 90'sF. He was out there doing his thing.
I'm proud of him and hope this summer teaches him that if he doesn't get an education, he can look forward to being a grumpy old road hand like most of the men he's working with.
He also has another part time job at one of the RAVE theaters. He isn't scared of work.

Thanked: 884When I quit driving over the road, I hired on and started out on the road crew. I operated everything everything they have including a shovel and asphalt rake. When an opening came up in the inspectors office, I jumped all over it.

Thanked: 1587Seems to me that he knows the value of hard work, and that can never be a bad thing. It's nice to hear a dad say he is proud of his son! From what you've said, you've every right to be and I am sure it is reciprocated
I remember my end of school summer job - cleaning a roofing truss manufacturing and lumber yard. Wood shavings and sawdust everywhere in the middle of an Aussie summer, and me with a broom and a shovel. Good times...good times... If I'm anything to go by, Wullie, your son will spend the next 15 years of his life studying to avoid that kind of work ever again!
James.

That's awesome! I brought my son on a sniper consulting gig this summer. He was very professional and made me proud also. It's something to see your hard work pay off isn't it?
