I also have used Norton Internet Security thingy and still have a copy of the latest editon the thing is it all seems a bit intense and there is always loads and loads of things in the Task manager running using up masive amounts of CPU and Memory, so i switched to AVG free, this is an excellent problem the only main problem is that it updates it virus file everytime it loads with windows which only takes about 10seconds and IMO is a good thing.

Thanked: 15I have used Norton and McAfee in the past. Between those two I prefer McAfee. It boils down to a personal like/dislike between the two. Both will do a good job if you are careful about what you download and open.
Avoiding opening attachments from people you don't know and being carefull about downloads from unknown websites will take care of 99% of the problem you might have.

When it comes right down to it, viruses on the internet are a lot like STD's: proper protection generally prevents them; most can be cured realatively painlessly, but a select few you'll have for life (or until you reinstall Windows); and they usually involve strangers. Frequently, the strangers are naked.

I like Mcafee, its VERY easy to use, constantly updates itself and works great. I work for a company where security is the #1 concern and they use Symantec (Norton) and I have seen things slip through this program that Mcafee picks up.
