    Default My new pen.

Ok, upon seeing a post by Matthew Poeller mon another forum and seeing some of his work I decided to order one myself (had to save up for it since I'm a poor student but eventually I did).

I caught him at a bad time since he was leaving on his honeymoon soon after we spoke through e-mail but he was awesome to deal with.

He made a 2 tone fountain pen for me. With a body of Birdseye Maple and a cap of Spalted Maple. The pen is HUGE but after writing with it for only 2 days it's already my favorite over my Parker '75 and my Chinese cheap finetipped fountain pens. And the parker was considerably more expensive.
It's gorgeous. I'd like to recommend him to anyone who'd like a piece like it. He's also been doing brushes lately he said.

    But don't just believe me
    Have a lok for yourself.

The picture itself doens't quite show either the sparkle of the Birdseye or the grain of the spalted maple. But for that you'll just have to take my word.

He can be found on http://www.mpoeller.com/pens.htm

I love the look and feel of a nice Fountain nothing like writing with one at work, They seem to make you feel on top of the world especially if you have one of those nifty little holders make the foundtain stick up at a wierd angle almost asking for someone to poke there eye out on. I have to go back to using a trusty rollerball as being left handed i end up with a blue page of ink instead of a neatly written Document

    Hi LX,

That looks like an excellent pen. Does it fill with a screw plunger?

yup, it's a screw plunger. And yes it's a custom. When I wrote Matthew he told me that at the moment he's using higher quality pens than shown on the website. So the price was a touch higher as well. But now that I have it I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Matthew does pretty much any kind of wood you ask him to use provided he feels it can be done. The wood on the cap of mine had to be stabilized wood because spalted maple is maple with a type of disease that creates the black grains through it. The wood becomes soft so it has to be stabilized before he turns. But other than that it came out perfectly.

If you're thinking about buying one and need incentive just ask him for pictures of his own daily writers...Cocobolo and Snake or Kingwood I believe...that'll put you over the top.

You know, I love fountain pens and I can't believe the price of the "stock" pens on his website (El Torro and Elite). I've paid that for cheaper quality pens.

    Great post LX, thanks!!

wonder if he could make a pen that looked like a straight. You know, hinge the actual pen inside a set of custom wood scales

I don't know...ask him I would say. He might see it as a challenge.

I'm a lfety....and I don't have a problem using it. It's very possible, you just have to practise a bit more than the righthanded people.

On the other hand...he does nice Ballpoints and Rollerballs as well....so maybe they're a bit heftier?
