What is wrong with people today?
Today for the third time this year I was the victim of an attempted mugging. Twice it has been on a college campus by people of the college age. Today I was walking to my car in a parking lot and the kid approached me and demanded my wallet. I'm 19 and while not large an athletic build with a pretty distinct military look and currently in a walking boot, I am by no means an easy looking target. It was in the middle of the day. Luckily after I explained the error of his ways and produced a knife the perp took off like the hounds of hell were on his heals. When an officer arrived for my statement he told me man to man this is happening a lot this year with college student and there was basically zero chance of them catching him. What the hell is wrong with kids these days?!?! I understand that college is expensive but get a job and have some self worth to society. Thank you for letting me get this rant off my chest.

I have no desire to carry a gun, but I would love to carry a knife.
Sadly, in Belgium that would earn me a conversation with a guy called 'your honor'.
Good that you were armed and unharmed.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Glad to hear you managed to walk away intact. The same issues are here as well, althought it has been a few years since someone has tried to rob or attack me, we here in the UK are at the distinct disadvantage that we cannot carry a knife with the exception of an unlockable knife less than 3 inches which if searched you need a good excuse.
I personally am of the view that if I am attacked that I maintain the right to beat said person until he is no longer a threat. It has served me well and I have no extra holes as a result.

Not isolated to your part of the world I'm afraid - the whole planets going to the dogs - hence the small but superb DPx HEST folder that is welded to me at all times

Thank God your OK. I really don't have anything I can think to say. The decline of mankind have been going on for some time now. He stole from you, not property, but peace of mind. You can't replace that. The only wisdom like thing I can think of, when they took away the paddles from the schools, made criminals of parents who rightfully disipline their kids, and started worrying about their, feelings. We brought forth a generation of people with no sense of wrong, nor, the possible repurcussions of their actions. No accountability or, more importantly; any sense of debt on their part for their actions. I know right from wrong, didn't always walk the right path. But, via the rubber hose or belt, I learned there were prices to be paid for not being good.
Third time this year?? Dude, park on the next block. Hang in there, good thing your OK!

With the jobless rate still in the toilet here crap like this is happening all over the place. Most yard sales nowdays are from stolen goods. The second year in a row we are the #1 car theft city. My wifes student fees have gone up 30% in the past year and a half and the jobs just dont exist... Yup carry what you can because they are out to get what ever is not nailed down... forget leaving anything outside the house, it will not be there in the morning...

Thanked: 79Good for you man! I do not desire or get off on situations like this, but it sure feels good to win 'em when they come your way. Proof positive that training and preparation are indeed valuable. And the expression on an attacker's face the moment he realizes that he has just become a potential victim - priceless!
I was talking to one of my training buddies recently, a well seasoned martial arts teacher from Bristol, England. Was telling him that I felt the level of aggression and hostility in our "civilized" societies has distinctly increased since I was a younger man, both here in the US and in the European cities I pass through. He agreed, and said "Yeah, many people are having a hard time these days, and they want everybody else to feel their pain too..." That's one way of putting it. There are certainly more people around than ever in my lifetime, and the number of a**holes has increased commensurately. Keep up the good work, and watch your six!

Thanked: 79I'm shocked. I thought Belgium was such a free society? Can they just search you on the street whenever they feel like it? Anyway, although I always try to stick to local law (blade length, folder or fixed), I have not walked around anywhere in the world without a knife for the last 30 years. As we say in the US: I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by six. (Means I'd rather go to court, maybe to jail, than get killed by some asshole).
