Has this been posted yet? Here's an account of someone who's live through a relatively recent "SHTF" situation.

Cities are bound to be the worst place to be in when TSHTF.
Especially if they are then also isolated by blockade.
In places where gun licenses are hard to get, it might be a good ideal to invest in a couple of compact crossbows and spare bolts. They're legal to own and free from registration. It is of course still illegal to walk around with a loaded crossbow, and it is still illegal to shoot trespassers (depending on where you live) but assuming that TSHTF, that is the least of your problems.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Can tell you don't live in Australia that's for sure. Crossbow owners have to be licenced and crossbows registered. Pistol/mini crossbows are illegal outright. At least the compound/recurve/longbow is still classed as sporting equipment like a football/baseball/cricket bat/tennis racquet etc. You can even practice in your own backyard with the onus of common sense and safety on the user. Other laws come into play when it comes to the use of a bow. Drop an arrow over the fence into your neighbours yard; it's trepass, damage something with the arrow; it's malicious damage, injure or kill pet/person...Well see ya in a few years time perhaps.
We do some archery practice in a mates backyard along with axe and knife throwing practice, and slingshot/shanghai and stick practice. All good fun and the neighbours just think we're crazy-arsed bikers who have a fetish for weapons.
