Thanked: 56Used Auto's in WA
Hey guys
So to set the mood, imagine violins from the philharmonic playing in the background.
My wife and I are a little tight for cash right now thanks to the visa process, and need to get a midterm car. Our current one (known as Bob) is dying, poor guy. Having just emigrated to the USA I am finding a very different standard of car on the road. This makes it tough for me to want to sink $1500 (about what we have) into a used car that may just end up right on death row beside Bob.
What I would like to know is ... does anybody know a good used car dealer in WA. What sort of things do you guys look for in the cars to make sure you are buying something that is just old and not dying. We don't really have automagic transmissions in the UK, mostly manuals and my wife wants an auto tranny. How do I know an automagic tranny is still good?
Thanks gents!!

For what it's worth, I was in the same boat just about a month or two ago. I really only needed to get a car that would last me a year so I started out looking used. Don't be too shocked if you find that in your price range there is very little to choose from.
Here in KS I found a weird thing thing going on that I have never seen before - used cars with asking prices well over the Kelly Blue book asking price. And folks not willing to go sell for the Blue Book price. It was shocking! The used market in KS absolutely bites! But then I didn't have a guy like Glen looking out for me.
I ended up buying the cheapest new car I could find in stick, with a 6 yr bumper to bumper just under 20K.David

Thanked: 56Something that worries me is that you can make things seem just fine. You can make anything work for a short period of time.
One guy was selling a shell of a car, with no real working parts (the shell was nice) a Dodge Intrepid for $1500, I kind of laughed then thought oh crap lol.
