Thanked: 50Stay Safe Out There-Huricane Sandy
Although I'm feeling rather smug with myself right at the moment for buying in Jersey City Heights rather than Rockaway Park, I do want to say that my thoughts are with everyone in the path of Sandy. Weather Channel just described this as the "worst storm ever".
And if you're a first responder, FD or PD, thank you.Last edited by DGilloon; 10-29-2012 at 03:38 PM.

Not to bad here in Queens NY so far...the surge is going to be a big PIA but the wind is not terrible right now...got some friends on Long Island that just lost power so it is up in the air so to speak depending on where you are..
Be safe all!

Thanked: 20In Hoboken NJ, not too terrible yet. Winds are definitely starting to pick up though. I just went down to the river to check it out. Water is only a foot or two below the piers. I saw a tree down as well. The crazy thing is that it's not too bad yet. So we shall see what Sandy brings as she gets nearer.
I heard a couple of cranes collapsed in the city already. The crane at the top of Freedom Tower has also already partially collapsed. Here's a picture (not mine, I found it on another forum).

We're at the peak of the storm here in the Boston area, and will be for a few more hours. The winds are kicking hard. The number of people with power outages in the state has sky rocketed. So far, things are good in my town; we've only had a few light flickers. We'll see what happens within the next few hours.
You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

So far so good Northwest of DC, but i have to say it is getting damn windy. I took advantage of an early office closing and sharpened four razors this afternoon.

Native Floridian here. Hope everyone up there is prepared and gets through this with minimal damage. I've read people online say that it's "only" a category 1, and that the media is just sensationalizing the doom and gloom, but it's better to be safe than naive when dealing with mother nature.

Keep your supplies close & stay inside, many die going outside to check things out.
