    Default Tap!Tap!Tap!Tap! In The Morning

Sitting around this morning I hear this loud tapping sound echoing throughout my house and I wonder what in the world is that. So I go searching for the source of the disturbance and I find a woodpecker latched onto the screen of a window in my back hallway hammering away at the glass. I am glad it didn't break the window for how hard it was hitting it. I guess it wanted to get in out of the rain. I tried to get closer to get a better shot, but it flew off before I could. I guess it is a good thing I took the picture. I know those windows need to be cleaned now.

Nice picture. And here I thought the thread was going to be about the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses.....

lol I usually don't mind the Jehovah's Witnesses except for the one time they came to my house at 5 am. I had to yell that time cause do they REALLY need to come that early. Any other time I will sit there and let them tell me of the "Lord's" plan, but not at 5 am

My mother enjoyed feeding birds until the woodpeckers started making holes all over her house.

    Nice picture.
We've had this chap (as well as many other species) as a daily visitor during winter times for many years now. Guess they find better company for the summer.
Luckily not knocking walls or windows, just trees.

My wifey is feeding little birds during cold seasons. They get sort of familiarized to this neighborhood. So when the summer begins and feeding stops, they stick around eating all the bugs and flies there might be around. Sort of a fair deal.

    Very cool-
This past summer I was putzing at my workbench in my garage when out of the corner my of eye I saw what I thought was a huge moth. As I tried to find something with which to swat it, I got a better look and saw that it was a humming bird. It hovered in the center of my garage for about 15 seconds and flew away. We see hummers every now and then because we have those trumpet-shaped flowers they like, but we live in a suburb of Chicago so it is pretty rare. To have one fly into my garage while I was there however was a real treat.

This past summer, I couldn't believe what I thought was my next-door neighbor banging away first thing in the morning.

Then it happened again... and again. So I went to talk to him about it. Turns out it was a wood pecker who faithfully every morning - came to his house and picked the one part that's actually siding and not wood, and gave it a shot!

If it wasn't so funny, I think one of us would have shot the thing lol. They are great birds. Love em.
