Thanked: 334Independence for les Quebecois and the Scots
After starting the Texas secession thread, I came to realize that I've not heard anything about the Quebec secessionist movement, nor of Scottish independence.
Anyone else heard anything of late?
Personally, I think that if the majority wants to stay/leave, that's the way it goes.

There's a newly-elected Parti Quebecois government in Quebec city, but it's a minority so don't expect to see much happen on that front under this gov't. I think the Scottish vote is set for next fall.
I'm with you. As long as there is a clear majority who vote for independence, no one has the right to force a province/region/nation to remain part of a country.
BUT - and in light of the last Quebec referendum this is a BIG but - the majority has to be made clear in response to a transparent yes/no question. None of this "Acceptez-vous que le Québec devienne souverain, après avoir offert formellement au Canada un nouveau partenariat économique et politique, dans le cadre du projet de loi sur l'avenir du Québec et de l'entente signée le 12 juin 1995" BS. There were so many disingenuous statements and assumptions inherent in that question that it was a bloody miracle that it didn't pass. Parizeau has since admitted that a yes vote would have instigated an immediate demand for independence, and that all talk of 'sovereignty association' was simply to cloud the issue and win over those who did not want independence, but who did want less catastrophic constitutional reform.
Personally I love Quebec and would absolutely hate to see Quebec leave Canada. But if, after a free and frank discussion leading to a transparent referendum, it was clear that a majority of Quebecois wanted Quebec to be independent I don't believe anyone would have the right to force them to stay.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Really, the dang majority live down here.
They can get your petitions & ballets signed here at the Bank Atlantic Center on New Years Eve, after the Panthers kick their butts.
........that's if we have a season, if not,,,,,well they can be found at the Dragon Chinese Buffet here in Plantation on the weekends.
